No judgement, just help
Hoarding is more common than many people realise, and it often has its roots in difficult life events such as bereavement, illness, loneliness or trauma. Nobody chooses to feel overwhelmed by their belongings, and asking for help takes real courage.
Whether you're contacting us for yourself or on behalf of someone you care about, we'll listen first. We won't lecture, we won't rush, and we'll never make anyone feel ashamed of their home.
The person whose home it is stays in control
A clearance works best, and lasts longest, when the person who lives in the home is involved and agrees to it. Clearing someone's possessions without their consent can be deeply distressing, and belongings often build up again afterwards. That's why we agree everything with them first, and nothing leaves the property without their say-so.
If you're a family member, landlord, housing association or support worker, we're happy to talk things through with you, and to work alongside the person and anyone supporting them.
How we work
A gentle first visit
We can usually visit to give a free, no-obligation quote, or start with photos if a visit feels like too much. We'll talk about what matters most to you: perhaps making a safe path through the house, freeing up the kitchen so meals can be cooked, or clearing a bedroom so you can sleep comfortably again.
Small steps, at your pace
There's no need to tackle everything at once. Many people prefer to work through one room, or even one corner, at a time over several visits. We'll go at whatever speed feels manageable.
Sorting together
We sort items with you into what you'd like to keep, what can be donated or recycled, and what can go. Anything you ask us to look out for, such as paperwork, photographs, keepsakes or valuables, is set aside. Reusable items go on to people who can use them where possible, which some people find makes letting go a little easier. The rest goes to licensed facilities.
Leaving the space usable
At the end of each visit, we sweep the cleared areas so you can see and enjoy the space you've made.
Safety, without pressure
Sometimes there are practical worries, such as blocked exits, items stacked close to heaters or cookers, or problems with damp. We'll gently point out anything that could affect your safety and suggest starting there, but the decisions remain yours. Your local fire and rescue service may also be able to offer a free home fire safety visit, which can be a helpful extra step.
Support beyond the clearance
Clearing space is only part of the picture. HoardingUK, a national charity, offers information and support for people affected by hoarding and those close to them. Talking to your GP can also be a good step.
If the home also held the belongings of someone who has died, our page on clearing after a bereavement explains how we handle a loved one's things. Landlords and housing providers may find our clearances for rental homes relevant, and our general house clearance page explains how we work more broadly.
