A village at the crossroads
Leeming Bar sits just off the A1(M), a few miles west of Northallerton and next to Aiskew and Bedale. For years the old road through the village carried traffic heading into Wensleydale, until the bypass took most of it away. The village is also home to the Wensleydale Railway, which runs its heritage trains from Leeming Bar station, and to an industrial estate with a number of food and manufacturing businesses.
That makes Leeming Bar a slightly different place to clear than a typical Dales or moorland village. Access is usually straightforward, with good roads and space to park, but the mix of properties is wide: family houses, bungalows, newer homes, farm buildings on the edge of the village and commercial premises on the estate.
Clearing homes in and around the village
Most clearances here are domestic. A home might need clearing because:
- someone has died and the family or executor needs the property emptied;
- an older relative is moving into care or closer to family;
- a household is relocating for work, sometimes at short notice;
- a landlord needs a rental property cleared between tenancies.
For a full home, our house clearance service covers every room, the loft, the garage and the garden. If you're a landlord or letting agent, we also offer clearances between tenancies, working to your key arrangements and inventory dates.
Bungalows and later-life moves
There are plenty of bungalows and smaller homes in and around the village, many of them lived in by older residents. When someone moves into residential care or to sheltered housing, only a fraction of their furniture usually goes with them. We can work alongside the family, taking out what's not needed while making sure the pieces that are going, such as a favourite chair, a bedside cabinet or a set of photographs, are left safely to one side.
Garages, sheds and farm buildings
Many homes in this part of the Vale have a garage or a run of outbuildings, and farms nearby often have barns and workshops packed with tools, timber and machinery. We can clear these alongside the house or as a separate job. Our page on clearing garages and sheds explains what's involved.
Business premises and units
Because Leeming Bar has an industrial estate and a good number of small businesses, you may need a unit, office or storage area cleared rather than a home. Whether you're moving out, closing a small business or simply reclaiming space, our commercial clearance service can remove office furniture, shelving, old stock and general waste. We'll work around your opening hours or your lease end date, and sort everything so that reusable items go on to a new home where possible.
If there's anything unusual on site, such as chemicals, old fuel or heavy machinery, please mention it when you ask for a quote so we can talk through how it should be handled.
When you're moving on
With the A1(M) on the doorstep and RAF Leeming nearby, this is an area where people come and go. If you're moving away and can't take everything with you, we can clear what's left once your removals have gone, or collect bulky items beforehand to make packing easier. It's often simpler than trying to sell or give away furniture in the last few busy weeks before a move.
How we work
Every clearance starts with a free, no-obligation quote. We can usually visit, or you can send photos of the rooms and outbuildings. Once you're happy, we'll agree a date and confirm what's staying.
On the day, we work through the property room by room. Paperwork, photographs and any valuables or keepsakes you've asked us to look for are kept aside for you. Furniture and household goods in good condition are donated or passed on for reuse wherever possible, materials are recycled, and the remainder goes to licensed facilities. We finish by sweeping through, so the property is left clear and tidy.
Before you book any clearance firm, it's sensible to check they're listed on the public register of waste carriers kept by the Environment Agency.
Giving belongings a second life
A lot of what comes out of a typical home still has plenty of use left in it. Sofas, tables, wardrobes, kitchenware, books, bedding and working electricals can often go on to someone else, while scrap metal, wood and cardboard can be recycled. We sort with that in mind from the start, rather than treating everything as waste. If there's a particular local cause you'd like items to go to, let us know and we'll do what we reasonably can.
Leeming Bar and the surrounding area
We're based in Northallerton, so Leeming Bar is only a short drive away. We also cover nearby villages such as Aiskew, Leeming, Scruton and Kirkby Fleetham, along with the market town of Bedale just to the west, where you can read about our Bedale clearances. To arrange a visit or a quote, just contact us with a few details about the property and what needs to go.
