Boroughbridge, on the southern edge of our area
Boroughbridge is an old market and coaching town on the River Ure, once a stopping point on the Great North Road and now just off the A1(M). On the edge of town stand the Devil's Arrows, three tall prehistoric standing stones, and next door is Aldborough, the site of an important Roman town. It's a place with a long history and a strong sense of community.
From our base in Northallerton, Boroughbridge is towards the southern edge of the area we cover, but it's an easy run down the A1(M). We're happy to come and look at a property here, or to quote from photos if that suits you better.
Homes in and around Boroughbridge
Town-centre houses and flats
Around the market place and the older streets, many homes are period town houses, cottages and flats above shops. These often come with narrow staircases, tight landings and rooms on several floors, and parking right outside isn't always possible. We plan carefully for these, carrying items down by hand and loading where it's safe and legal to stop.
Newer housing
Like many towns in the area, Boroughbridge has grown, with newer housing on its edges. These homes are generally easier to reach, but a family house can still hold a surprising amount, especially in the loft and the garage.
Village and riverside properties
Across the river in Langthorpe, and in villages such as Roecliffe, Minskip and Kirby Hill, you'll find cottages, farmhouses and bungalows, some with large gardens and outbuildings. Rural lanes and private drives can affect what size of vehicle we use, so it helps to know about them early.
Homes close to the River Ure sometimes have cellars, garages or outbuildings that have been affected by damp over the years. Boxes of papers, rugs and soft furnishings stored in these spaces may not be in a state to keep. We'll handle them carefully, check anything that could matter to you, such as documents or photographs, before it goes, and let you know if something looks worth saving.
A gentle approach when a home has become hard to manage
Sometimes a clearance is needed because belongings have built up over many years and the home has become difficult to live in. That can happen to anyone, often after a bereavement, an illness or a period of struggling. If you or someone close to you is in this position, we'll work patiently and without judgement, at a pace the person is comfortable with.
Our hoarding clearance service explains how we approach this kind of work, and the charity HoardingUK offers support and information for people affected by hoarding and for their families.
Our clearance process
However big or small the property, the steps are the same:
- Free quote: by visit or from your photos, with no obligation.
- A clear plan: we agree what's staying, what's going and what we should look out for.
- Careful sorting: keepsakes, photographs and paperwork set aside for you; reusable items donated or recycled where possible; the rest taken to licensed facilities.
- A tidy finish: every room swept once it's empty.
We work with families, executors, solicitors, landlords and housing associations, and we can work to your timescale. If you're an executor, our service for executors and probate covers the extra steps involved, and our page on clearance pricing explains how quotes are worked out.
Clearing a home ahead of a sale
Boroughbridge is a popular place to live, with good road links north and south, so homes here often go on the market soon after a family has decided to sell. A clear, swept property is easier for an agent to photograph and value, and easier for buyers to picture as their own. We can fit the clearance around your agent's timetable, whether that's before the photos are taken, between viewings or just before completion.
If you're not ready to clear everything, we can start with the loft, garage and spare rooms, and leave the main living areas furnished until later. That way the house still feels like a home during viewings, and the final clearance is quicker when the time comes. Just tell us what you have in mind, and we'll plan the work in stages.
Shops and small businesses
As a market town, Boroughbridge has its share of shops, cafés, offices and small businesses. If you're closing or relocating, or simply have a storeroom that needs emptying, we can help with clearing commercial premises, working around your trading hours where we can and leaving the space swept and ready for its next use.
Nearby areas
As well as Boroughbridge itself, we cover Langthorpe, Aldborough, Roecliffe, Minskip, Kirby Hill and the villages in between. The cathedral city of Ripon is a short way to the north-west, and our page on house clearance in Ripon covers that area; to the east, we also serve Easingwold and its villages.
When you're ready, request your free quote and tell us a little about the property. We'll come back to you with a clear plan and a date.
